There are many faces and signs of brokenness in our world today. Although we’d prefer to avoid these things, we can’t because we’re broken too. Instead of ignoring this, we should embrace it. In doing so, we can start to heal.
How God Uses Broken People
God loves us, even in our brokenness. In fact, it’s our brokenness that He chooses to use for His glory. It’s something His Word clearly commands of us.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’
The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’There is no commandment greater than these.” ~ Mark 12:30-31
There are many ways He uses us to heal the world we live in(e.g., mentoring, fostering, adoption). God uses broken people because of His grace. Through it, He’s loved us into His family. Now that we’ve experienced this love, we should want to share it with others.
Have you ever wondered why both the Old and the New Testaments constantly call us to care for the oppressed? You’ll find many Scriptures describe caring for these people as pure religion. These should serve as a reminder to follow the two greatest commandments Christ has given us. After all, we’re all orphaned, broken, lost, and captive in some way. However, God has adopted us and given us His love. He’s filled us with His Holy Spirit so we can love and comfort ourselves and those around us.
Finding Peace in a Broken World
Unfortunately, we’ve divided the world into those who “need” and those who “give” help. The truth is that as Christians, we’re both. Once we realize this, we can start loving those around us as Jesus would.
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. ~ John 16:33
The beauty of brokenness lies in God showing us how to use it to help ourselves and those around us heal. Ask Him to show you how He can use you today.
