Jesus and Me
Jesus called for the children to come to him and that we do not hinder them, for the Kingdom belongs to them (Matthew 18). At Word of Life Outreach Ministries, the Jesus and Me (JAM) children’s ministry promotes a safe and loving environment for children to be taught the unconditional love of Jesus.
The Old Testament is filled with passages that encourage parents to teach their children to love and worship God. In the New Testament Gospels, we discover God’s deep love of children through the ways Jesus reacts to children and interacts with them.
In Matthew 18, Jesus calls the children to gather around him stating that to enter the kingdom we must become like children, and in Luke 18, Jesus rebukes the disciples who try to chase away parents who are bringing their children to him. In Luke 8, Jesus even raises from the dead the daughter of synagogue leader Jairus.
Showing little ones the love of Jesus can be difficult. He’s here, but we can’t see him. He answers prayer, but we don’t hear his voice.
Proverbs 22:6 (NIV) instructs us to, “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.”
As parents, we try to be holy and do right, but we are also human. Real faith can be messy, and when we get angry, lose our temper, or falter in our own walk with Jesus, we may feel guilty or inadequate.
While you connect with Christ through one of our adult ministries, JAM serves to provide scaffolding and assistance to the teachings you have already provided to your child. Children need to know that Jesus loves them and that learning, worship, and praise are powerful tools that allow them to connect with his love.
