Christmas is almost here. Another year has almost passed. Christian discipleship is more important than ever at this time of the year. As you take time to think about what this means, there’s one saying that comes to mind, “No cross. No crown.”
What No Cross No Crown Means
On Jesus’ way to redeeming the world, He faced many negative situations (e.g., betrayal, alienation, injustice, violence, torture, imprisonment, condemnation). To think that our journeys through Christian discipleship would be any different would be a fallacy. Like Christ couldn’t wear the crown of glory without bearing the cross, neither can we.
As Christians, we grow through what we go through. Whether it’s a humiliating failure, a crushing breakup, moral failure, lonely season, a bout with depression, or the loss of a job, God always has a purpose for our pain. During life’s disappointments, you’ll become more empathetic, compassionate, and you’ll learn perseverance. These are things we’ll never develop living a life of comfort.
An Important Lesson is Learned Here
“No cross, no crown” teaches us an important lesson about Christian discipleship. You must be a part of a royal family to wear a crown. To inherit the throne, you must be the descendant of a king. In our case, that means we must be born again. While we were once paupers, we’re now the children of the King of Kings. Herein lies the real meaning of Christmas.
