Sometimes life’s circumstances may cause you to lose faith in God. They can also cause you to feel like God’s presence is no longer around you. If you’re feeling like this, you should know that you’re not alone. We all go through seasons of doubt in our lives, times when trusting God’s plan is difficult.
Even though you may still be spending time with God you may find yourself asking: Does God care? Does He hear me?
When you feel like trusting God in difficult times is a challenge, you may find yourself feeling anxious, frustrated, or resentful. You should know that you’re not the only one who struggles with trusting God’s plan. We’ve all been in a place where our spiritual intimacy seems like a distant memory leaving us wondering where we should turn or what we should do.
The Hope of a Better Way
When you start to struggle with trusting God’s plan there are a few things that you should do.
Acknowledge That Your Feelings are Valid
Feeling frustrated is “normal” when life isn’t going as you’d planned. You may even feel angry with God when you don’t think He’s listening to you. However, when you start struggling with trusting God’s plan you should tell Him so. Remember, He isn’t there to shame or condemn you. Instead, He’s there to meet you right where you are. He’s a good Father who cares deeply for you and can handle your honesty.
Remember Your Faith Isn’t a Spiritual Checklist
As you work on trusting God in difficult times it’s important to remember that you aren’t God’s employee, you’re His child. Sometimes we struggle with trusting God’s plan when we’re deeply involved in serving Him we may forget that the real reason Christ came was to show us His way – a better way.
I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
~ John 14:6 KJV
Through Christ’s life, death, and resurrection He paved a way for us – one in which we don’t have to strive for God’s approval or attention. This is because He gave us full access to the Father. In doing so He provides us with peace, freedom, and rest.
Trusting God in Difficult Times Means Trusting He’s There for You
Although you may find trusting God in difficult times challenging, you need to know that He’s still there for you. His presence is available to you. All you have to do is call out to Him. Tell Him about your pain, frustration, and unmet expectations because He cares, sees, and will show you the way.
Don’t Carry the Burden Alone
When trusting God in difficult times becomes a struggle, let your friends know that you’re struggling with trusting God’s plan. You shouldn’t be ashamed of your feelings. By sharing them your feelings won’t be able to fester and make you feel worse.
In Mark 2:1 – 12, we read how a group of friends carry their friend to Jesus because He couldn’t make it there himself. When Jesus sees how much faith these friends have He starts to heal the man. This same healing is available for you when you’re struggling with trusting God in difficult times. Take some time to talk to your friends and let them carry you to the Father for the healing you need in your life.
